For standard contracts, if you are faced with a medical emergency and get sick while travelling (with COVID-19 or another illness), your Out of Province/Out of Canada coverage will pay for your emergency/medical treatments, subject to the terms of your contract. There are no restrictions/exclusions on where you travel under the Emergency Out of Province/Out of Canada Benefit.

Our standard definition of a medical emergency under Out-of-Province or Out-Of-Canada says:  a sudden, unexpected injury which occurs or a new medical condition which begins while an insured person is travelling outside his province of residence;

If the contract has our standard definition, and a member travels and contracts COVID-19 at a destination, related reasonable medical treatment of the initial emergency will be covered under this contract wording until the member is stable to return home for ongoing care. It may be necessary for Allianz to obtain Canadian medical records though to ensure the member was not exhibiting symptoms before his departure (i.e. coverage is still subject to the contractual stability clause).

Please contact us to determine if your contract is standard or non-standard. Non-standard contract wording can vary widely.
