When it comes to COVID-19, Empire Life's travel benefit hasn't really changed. They still base eligibility on whether or not the government is warning against travel. During the pandemic, the government is advising against all travel outside Canada due to COVID-19. For this reason, if you are permitted to cross the border and you contract COVID-19 while out of the country, the benefits will not cover any related medical expenses. If, on the other hand, you are permitted to cross the border and you fall and hurt yourself, the travel benefits will still be there for you.

It should be noted, however, that medical facilities may not be available during these uncertain times, and so it's important to consider where treatment will take place in the event of a medical emergency while abroad.

COVID-19 related emergencies are not deemed eligible as it does not meet the contractual definition of unforeseen/emergency.
